You don't need rhythm to make a sound. |
Not since 2010 have Splendour got it 100% right. The line up announced this morning is preeettyy, preeetty, preeetty, pretty good; however this promo vid showcasing the main stage line up is not… I get that it’s trying to take the piss, but it fails to get me excited for the artists. Instead it reminds me of the hipster army that is bound to take over the festival with their pretentious triangles and offensive leggings… Think of Sideshow Bob stepping on a shit load of rakes, ‘cause that just about sums up how I feel about this vid.
UPDATE: turns out the dancing douche is some Trop Fest glorified Byron native who inspires people to be “free” through dance. All I have to say to this is… Get a real job hippie! Like blogging…
EARGASM OF THE DAY: Electric Guest - Troubleman
I’m one of those weird people that when I really love something, my face does all the wrong things and I look like I hate it. For the past month Electric Guest have had my mug in a permanent state of disdain. When they got announced for Splendour this morning, my face contorted in rage beyond recognition… I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW!
So who is Electric Guest? Just 2 awesome dudes from LA making some dope ass tunes produced by the one and only *drum roll* DANGER MOUSE. More specifically Asa Taccone on vocals and Matthew Compton on beats. Taccone is no rookie to the music biz; his brother Jorma is part of music comedy troupe The Lonely Island. Proving that they really are from the same sperm set, Electric Guest will make you jizz in your pants. For real. Taccone’s smooth tones add a sublime hit of soul over a flowing undercurrent of electronic goodness. It has Danger Mouse written all over it. Picking a favourite from their handful of tracks currently floating around the webiverse is really hard. The reason why I’ve gone with Troubleman is purely based on the fact that it’s over 8 minutes and has me begging for more. To give you an idea of the caliber of work we’re getting, some of the very few other lingering tracks that have me frothing include; Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven and Kashmir as well as Nina Simone’s Sinnerman; Bob Dylan’s Desolation Row and of course The Sugar Hill Gang’s Rappers Delight. Troubleman manages to capture the same classic qualities that cemented these tracks a place in the history books in the first place; old.school.swagger. Electric Guest’s debut album Mondo is set to drop next month. I actually don’t think my face can handle it.
